Irish FestivalShow us your Irish craic!
27th - 29th January 2012
Following the great success of last year’s Irish Cultural Festival at Lake Jindabyne we are pleased to announce the 2012 event is fast approaching.
The Festival unites the Australian Irish Community for a 3-day celebration of music, culture and sports. The Festival draws visitors from throughout Australia and abroad, and allows an annual opportunity to display and develop Irish culture within the Australian community.
Last year’s festival brought Jindabyne alive with the sounds of Irish traditional music, the energy of Gaelic sports and the thrill of dancing displays throughout the village. The Festival was enjoyed by over 1200 Irish community members, their friends and family. The local community from Jindabyne and surrounding villages actively joined us in our celebration, and we provided substantial investment in local business and services along with our good company.
The 202 program is currently being finalised, but ensures the return of many of the talented performers from previous years and the welcoming of new musicians, dancers and participants. The Festival will open on Friday wth a big traditional Irish Music Welcome session. Saturday’s program will include Irish dance bands, music and cultural displays of dancing in various local venues workshops and Irish theatre. On Sunday the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) from NSW and VIC host the ‘Family Funday’ at Jindabyne oval. The day will include a men’s Gaelic football competition between NSW and Victoria, women’s football, and the much anticipated return of the Tony Carolan Hurling Cup played between Central Coast and Victoria. Hurling is not only a fast-paced, highly skilled game to play but it promises a great spectator sport that will have the crowd on their feet.
